Johnson is delighted

Permalink 01:22:51 pm, by cartman Email , 133 words, 1130 views   English (UK)

Andrew Johnson is delighted with his recall to the England squad, insisting it is thanks to his summer move to Everton.

Johnson was named by Steve McClaren in his squad for next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra and Macedonia.

And the former Crystal Palace man says it is all down to his move to Goodison Park.

"When I joined Everton I said that it would be good for my international ambitions and that's been proved right," he said.

"Every player wants to represent his country and I am no different in that. I just hope that now I can actually play a part in the two games.

"I am happy with my form at Everton and I have to thank the lads who have made it very easy for me to settle in."

Howard happy with Everton

Permalink 10:18:32 am, by cartman Email , 167 words, 587 views   English (UK)

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard says he has nothing to prove as he embarks on a season away from Manchester United.

The United States international has joined The Toffees on a season-long loan this term after being pushed down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Howard is keen to re-establish himself in England after falling out of favour under Sir Alex Ferguson, but has nothing detrimental to say about the Scot.

The 27-year-old just wants to put his recent United disappointment behind him and make the most of his Everton chance.

"I hate to rely on a sports cliche, but I'm not looking to prove anything," said Howard.

"I think I have proven myself. And, as an athlete, you want to continue to prove yourself.

"Ferguson didn't treat me exceptionally bad or anything. In fact, I have nothing but good things to say about him.

"For me, it's just about looking forward to this year and seeing how this goes and putting everything I have into this year."
